Bio

In 2011, author and singer-songwriter Caroline Cobb gave herself a goal to write a song for every book of the Bible in a year. That year of writing set in motion a new calling: to tell the stories of scripture through music and writing — with imagination, artistry and faithfulness to the text.

Caroline’s first book, Advent for Exiles: 25 Devotions to Awaken Gospel Hope in Every Longing Heart (2024), explores the rich and relevant  theme of exile by weaving together God’s Word, song, biblical imagery and responsive exercises. Her latest album, Psalms: The Poetry of Prayer (May 2023), gives voice to a rich range of prayers from the book of Psalms, helping listeners express trust, hope, joy, confession, lament and more through 11 tracks. Patterned loosely after the A.C.T.S. model of prayer or a church service, many of these songs began during Cobb’s private devotional time, as she prayed the Psalms back to God in the upheaval of 2020.

The fifth in an anthology of albums that tell the biblical Story, Psalms builds on previous full-length projects A King & His Kindness (2021), A Seed, A Sunrise (2020), the Blood + the Breath (2013) and a Home & a Hunger (2017). Each album traces a biblical theme, with every song parachuting into a different scene from scripture. Advent for Exiles is yet another iteration of Cobb’s work to “tell God’s Story”.

Caroline has been featured by Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, Risen Motherhood and more, with a Home & a Hunger named among the “Best Albums of the Decade (2010’s)” by The Gospel Coalition. She has been compared to Rich Mullins, Andrew Peterson, Sandra McCracken, and Ellie Holcomb. Caroline and her husband live in Dallas, TX with their three children Ellie, Harrison and Libby. What People Are Saying

“Caroline Cobb is an artist of sincerity and substance.  I’m grateful for her melodic voice and the way she weaves scripture and song.”

— Sandra McCracken, singer-songwriter & author

“Finally . . .  a musical feast for the Advent season that fills us with the kind of scripture-saturated expectation of Christ we need to combat our culture’s consumer-oriented Christmas.”

— Nancy Guthrie, Author and Bible teacher

“The blending of scripture, story, and folk music make the music of Caroline Cobb a welcome refreshment for any soul. Listen and be encouraged!”

— Matt Boswell, Hymnwriter & Pastor, The Trails Church

“One of my favorite lyricists in the Church today. Theology, poetry, beauty. You will be in awe of the gospel again, refreshed by Jesus, and encouraged.”

— Lore Wilbert, Author of Handle with Care and blogger at Sayable

“A Seed, A Sunrise: Advent to Christmas Songs stirred my affections for Christ. As we go about our holiday traditions, this album will be a faithful reminder of the very Person that makes Christmas so special. Once again, Caroline Cobb offers us a melody to the song of our hearts.”

— Hunter Beless, host of Journeywomen Podcast

“Caroline Cobb's lyrical theology is a gift to the Church. She is a student of the Word who has let the grand narrative of Scripture work deep into her heart, and then creatively and faithfully retranslated it into an artistic expression of worshipful meditation that will edify and encourage God's people.”

— Justin Taylor, Vice President of Crossway Publishing & Blogger at The Gospel Coalition

“I have long been a fan of Caroline Cobb. Her poetic lyrics and evocative melodies always seemed to be several steps ahead of other artists. And so I was delighted to discover that she is releasing an advent-themed album: A Seed, a Sunrise. I am praying that her songs will cultivate a genuine longing in our hearts for a world-to-come and a coming Savior.”

— Dr. Matthew Westerholm, Assoc. Professor of Church Music and Worship, SBTS & Executive Director, Institute for Biblical Worship

“If Rich Mullins was here to express it, I think he would approve of this Jesus record [A King & His Kindness]. He would probably want Cobb to join him on a tour highlighting the life of Christ. If you are looking for biblically-rooted songs expressed primarily in straightforward arrangements and organic sounds, don’t miss this one.”

— Michael Dalton, The Phantom Tollbooth

“With biblically rich lyrics, Caroline’s music artfully and thoughtfully contemplates the themes of Advent—hope, joy, peace, love, waiting, longing. A Seed, A Sunrise offers us a meditative and worshipful invitation to wait expectantly on the Lord.”

— Jen Wilkin, Author and Bible Teacher

“Both a storyteller and a theologian, Cobb has emerged as a unique and needed voice as she attempts to make biblical theology accessible. Cobb beckons us into the biblical narrative so we may find ourselves in the pages of Scripture.”
